Hello and Welcome to the Official Doug Norquay Web
Site!
Born and raised in Windsor, Ont.,
then moving to Saskatoon, Sask. where he played in local bar bands , Doug is now
living in Guelph, Ont. and performing solo on slide guitar and vocals, mostly in
the Toronto to Windsor area of Southern Ontario .
Writing most of his own material , he works in a blend of Mississippi and
countrified Chicago blues styles , and more recently has opened a new vein of
roots country (which he promises not to play at blues gigs).
He plays clubs and bars mostly but has done various festivals as well ,
including the Bluestock Festival in Memphis Tennessee , Vancouver's Music
West Festival, Canadian Music Week, North by Northeast and Mariposa , all in
Toronto. His festival billings have included opening for "Night of
the Living Guitar" at Music West featuring Joe Walsh, Danny Gatton, Robbie
Robertson and others, and the Side Stage at the B.B. King Bluesfest (featuring
B.B. King, Buddy Guy, and John Hammond) at Toronto's Molson Amphitheater .
He has also opened for John Hammond , R.L. Burnside , Junior Kimbrough, Paul
"Wine" Jones , Ron Sexsmith, W.C. Clark, The Impressions, The
Downchild Blues Band, Sue Medley,Adrian Legg, The Leslie Spit Tree-O , Bob
Snider, and many others
Songs from his independent blues recordings have been played on various CBC ,
college and public radio outlets. These recordings include 1992's
"Cadillac Shoes", "Ugly Blues" from 1997 , 1999's
"Poisonous Road Snakes", and the most recent, 2004's "Ethel's
Lounge" by Doug Norquay and the Gaunt Boys (his fictitious country
band) - as mentioned before , this one expands his repertoire in the direction
of alternative/roots country , but does include a few new blues tunes.
